Astrocytes - Their Role in Neuronal Communication (2011)
The goal was to create a 3D video showing how glial cells are controlling the signal strength of neurons by the release of glutamate, under the presence of TNF alpha. This was done with several segments visualising its mechanisms. The image shows a forest with neurons and astrocytes and is based on the research of Prof. Andrea Volterra and his team from the Department of Fundamental Neurosciences at University of Lausanne.
Technology: Our in-house ray tracing and simulation engine BioInspire (written from scratch in C/C++) was used to create models, animations, renderings and special effects. Music was specially composed for the movie.
